Supporting Parents, First Responders, Educators & Divorce Recovery

Sheena McRae is an EMDR trauma and attachment therapist specializing in supporting women navigating emotionally immature parenting dynamics, unhealthy relationships, chronic stress, and nervous system overwhelm. Her work focuses on helping clients understand how early relational experiences, attachment wounds, and survival-based coping patterns continue shaping adulthood—particularly within relationships, self-worth, emotional regulation, and the tendency to stay stuck in cycles that no longer feel healthy.

Sheena integrates EMDR therapy, attachment-focused approaches, and nervous system-informed care to support women processing relational trauma, high-conflict dynamics, and patterns rooted in emotionally immature or emotionally unsafe environments. She is also trained and certified in Dr. Lindsay Gibson’s model for Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents (ACEIP), bringing specialized insight into how these early dynamics continue impacting adult relationships and identity.

Who Sheena Supports

Sheena works with women carrying invisible loads—emotional labour, trauma history, or the cumulative stress of always being “the strong one.” Her clients often include:

    • Mothers and Caregivers: Navigating maternal mental health, the "mental load," and the transition into parenthood.
    • Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents: Trained in Dr. Lindsay Gibson’s framework, Sheena helps clients recognize and work through the behavioural and relational patterns that develop in response to emotionally immature caregiving.
    • First Responders & Frontline Professionals: Specializing in compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and PTSD for those in high-stress roles.
    • Educators: Addressing chronic burnout and the emotional exhaustion unique to the teaching profession.
    • Women in Life Transitions: Support for divorce recovery, relationship trauma, and navigating high-conflict family dynamics.
    • Adult Survivors of Childhood Trauma: Healing from emotional neglect and complex trauma (C-PTSD) to reconnect with the self.

Behind the Bio: The Human Behind the Therapist

(Because yes, therapists are humans too—coffee-loving, podcast-bingeing, deep-feeling humans!)

Comfort Food Favourite: Pizza—especially when it’s loaded with cheese!

A Highly Recommended Read: What Happened to You by Bruce Perry is a must for mental health insights. For fiction, The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah is a favourite, and there’s always room for a bit of romantasy—Sarah J. Maas never disappoints!

A Go-To Way to Unwind: Nothing beats a good book, a warm cup of tea, and the company of sweet pups after a long day.
