Sheena McRae – Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) & Trauma Therapist

EMDR Trained | Virtual Trauma Therapy for Women across Ontario & Canada

Supporting Parents, First Responders, Educators & Divorce Recovery

Sheena is a trauma therapist offering specialized online therapy for women, mothers, first responders, and educators across Ontario and Canada. She is trained in EMDR therapy—a powerful, evidence-based approach for healing PTSD, relational trauma, and depression.

The Lived Experience Connection: Her work is deeply shaped by her own healing journey from complex trauma (CPTSD) through nervous system regulation and self-compassion. She understands what it’s like to live with a system that feels constantly on edge, or to carry the quiet pressure to keep “holding it all together.”

A Grounded Human Approach: With 17 years of experience as a teacher, Sheena brings deep insight into emotional resilience and life transitions. Her therapeutic space is grounded and affirming—rooted in compassion but never afraid to find a moment of laughter. She’s here to help you shift from survival mode into a life that feels lighter.

Who Sheena Supports

Sheena works with women carrying invisible loads—emotional labour, trauma history, or the cumulative stress of always being “the strong one.” Her clients often include:

    • Mothers and Caregivers: Navigating maternal mental health, the "mental load," and the transition into parenthood.
    • First Responders & Frontline Professionals: Specializing in compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and PTSD for those in high-stress roles.
    • Educators: Addressing chronic burnout and the emotional exhaustion unique to the teaching profession.
    • Women in Life Transitions: Support for divorce recovery, relationship trauma, and navigating high-conflict family dynamics.
    • Adult Survivors of Childhood Trauma: Healing from emotional neglect and complex trauma (C-PTSD) to reconnect with the self.

The Frameworks That Shape Her Therapy Style

  • •Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): A powerful, evidence-based modality used to desensitize and process traumatic memories, allowing the brain to resume its natural healing process.
  • •Attachment Theory: Exploring how early relational patterns impact your current sense of security, boundaries, and connection in adulthood.
  • •Somatic Processing: Integrating body-based awareness to help regulate the nervous system and release tension stored in the body from chronic stress or trauma.
  • •Internal Family Systems (IFS): An approach that views the mind as a system of "parts," helping you move from internal conflict toward self-compassion and clarity.
  • •Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT): Focusing on the emotional core of your experiences to help reshape how you relate to yourself and others.
  • •Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT): Providing practical, grounded tools for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness in high-stress moments.

Behind the Bio: The Human Behind the Therapist

(Because yes, therapists are humans too—coffee-loving, podcast-bingeing, deep-feeling humans!)

Comfort Food Favourite: Pizza—especially when it’s loaded with cheese!

A Highly Recommended Read: What Happened to You by Bruce Perry is a must for mental health insights. For fiction, The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah is a favourite, and there’s always room for a bit of romantasy—Sarah J. Maas never disappoints!

A Go-To Way to Unwind: Nothing beats a good book, a warm cup of tea, and the company of sweet pups after a long day.
